Beginners classes will focus on introductory level poses and are open to new starters and those with experience who prefer to work at this level.
A Foundation Course is also a good option for beginners. It is a 6 week course that walks you through the basics in a friendly and informative atmosphere. Ideal for those who prefer a shorter class and the opportunity to learn alongside other brand new starters.
General will be a mixed group - beginners are welcome as well as those with some experience and the teacher may introduce some trickier postures, giving alternatives where necessary.
Beginning Intermediates The main difference between this class and General Level, is that it is not open to brand new beginners. It is a stepping stone between beginners and intermediate and the teacher will introduce intermediate postures gradually and from the basic level, so no previous experience of intermediate poses is necessary.
Intermediate classes are for people with a year's experience of Iyengar Yoga. You do not need to be a master yogi to attend these classes, but you should be familiar with the basics of Iyengar Yoga and ready to explore some intermediate poses. Having an injury or health condition is not a barrier to attending Intermediate classes and your teacher will work with you to help you gain an understanding of the proper way to work sensibly with your challenges. You should be be able to hold a steady sarvangasana shoulder stand for 5 minutes and be familiar with the set up for sarvangasana in an Iyengar class, before attending intermediate.
Experienced level classes are for those with an established practice of Iyengar Yoga. You should be competent at practicing headstand and shoulderstand (or your alternatives where not suitable) with a good understanding of the Iyengar method. Please pay cash at the studio for this class as it cannot be booked online.
Gentle Restorative This is a gentle end of the week class, with an emphasis of working on the postures in a more supportive and restorative way. The sequencing will incorporate the use of supports/props to create stability enabling students to remain in the postures for a longer period resulting in a sense of quietude and well being. It is an ideal class if you wish to wind down after a busy week or to let go of stress and tension.
Therapy Class This class is for those students who are unable to attend normal classes due to illness or injury. It is led by Lynda Purvis and assisted by Tamara, Frances, Janet, Jenny, Jess and Melroy. This class is not available for online booking and is by appointment only.
